A member of the recently formed group Ukraine DAO, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova is causing a stir in the realm of digital art with a novel project based on Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).
The acronym “NFTs” stands for “Non-Fungible Tokens,” and they use blockchain technology to prove ownership and stop anyone from making fake versions of digital artworks.
The issuance of 10,000 NFTs representing the Ukrainian flag is being spearheaded by Tolokonnikova in partnership with Ukraine DAO. Both the Return Alive Foundation and the non-governmental organization Proliska will get funding from the selling of NFTs. Plus, there will be a special, limited edition version for collectors.
Tolokonnikova stressed in a recent interview with Decrypt that the choice to offer only NFTs with the Ukrainian flag is a deep expression of unity and not an attempt to promote a specific artist or style.
Russia has labeled Tolokonnikova a “foreign agent,” a designation that has consequences for anyone who are accused by the Kremlin of receiving foreign funds and participating in political activities. This designation is notable. Tolokonnikova utilizes NFTs as a potent instrument for advocacy and awareness-raising, and she persists in pushing boundaries despite these obstacles.
